What is cell therapy?
Cell therapy is the treatment of disease by delivering therapeutic DNA into a patient’s cells in vivo or ex vivo. This new DNA can be used to replace or correct a faulty gene or deliver therapeutic DNA to a target cell. Cell therapy typically involves the modification of cells which are then used as therapeutic agents to treat or prevent disease by re-introduction to the body. Gene therapy is one of the key means of modifying cells. Cell therapy offers the potential of a single-dose, long-term or even permanent treatment/cure for many challenging diseases lacking effective treatment options.
